Robinson’s modern infinitesimal approach puts the intuitive ideas of the founders of the calculus on a mathematically sound footing, and is easier for beginners to understand than the more common approach via limits. This is a calculus textbook at the college Freshman level based on Abraham Robinson’s infinitesimals, which date from 1960. Additional subjects include transcendental functions, series, vectors, partial derivatives, and multiple integrals. Elementary Calculus: An Approach Using Infinitesimals. It contains all the ordinary calculus topics, including the basic concepts of the derivative, continuity, and the integral, plus traditional limit concepts and approximation problems. Chapters 1 through 4 employ infinitesimals to quickly develop. This first-year calculus book is centered around the use of infinitesimals. The author also teaches the traditional approach, giving students the benefits of both methods.
